Minutes of the Open General Meeting of the BCTCS

BCTCS 15, Keele University, 14th April 1999

The meeting was recognised as quorate there being present the President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the BCTCS, the Local Organiser for BCTCS 15, and at least ten other members of the BCTCS.

The minutes of the Open General Meeting held at BCTCS 14 were approved.

The President briefly discussed the current political and financial position of TCS in Britain and Europe, and reminded all members of the BCTCS of the importance of encouraging colleagues, students and supervisors to attend BCTCS and play a part in the British TCS community. He then announced that owing to the pressure of other commitments, he was regretfully having to step down as President of BCTCS. Accordingly, a new president would be elected.

The Treasurer's report was delivered on his behalf by the President.

Elections to the Organizing Committee.

Martyn Amos (Liverpool) reported on the arrangements for BCTCS 16. The dates would be 10-12 April 2000, and the colloquium would be held in a central hotel and conference centre. Sponsorship negotiations were proceeding successfully.

The meeting discussed the possibilities for BCTCS 17, and Stephan Reiff (Glasgow) tentatively proposed Glasgow, subject to approval by his department. This offer was warmly welcomed.

Paul Dunne moved a vote of thanks to Iain Stewart for his work as President in the past year.

There being no other business, the meeting closed.
